What are Living Reef Memorials?

Living Reef Memorials are a permanent resting place for a loved ones cremains. Cremains are eternally preserved within a scientifically engineered artificial reef, designed to be forever permanent.

Reefs are individually hand crafted using natural sea shells, sand, the cremated remains, and a bit of ocean friendly concrete. After a thirty day curing period the reefs are ready to be loaded for the journey to the deployment area.

Reefs are placed in areas where they are needed most. Soon after a reef has been placed onto a barren sea floor, a beautiful and natural transformation occurs. As reefs become colonized, they grow in size and bloom with an abundance of life.

The entire process is documented using video, edited, shared and given to loved ones of the family.

Deployment Sites

 There are many deployment sites within the Georgia Strait, many within a few hundred feet from the shoreline. Current locations off Vancouver Island are as follows;

  • Nanaimo - Pipers Lagoon
  • Ladysmith - Coffin Island
  • Victoria - Spring Bay
  • Off the coast of Bowen Island
  • There are a few other locations surrounding the Southern Gulf Islands, from Gabriola to South Pender.
