Obituary

Norma Primiani

May 6th, 1938 - May 2, 2020

Norma passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of May 2nd, just 4 days shy of her 82nd birthday. She left us a little sooner than we thought, but it seems it was time for her to embark on her next adventure.

A world traveller for most of her life, Norma was open hearted and open minded to all those she met. An extremely loving woman, who devoted all her time and energy to her Family and Friends, and her Faith.
We all feel the sadness of her passing together.

Daughter of Giovanni Primiani and Louisa Fiorilli of Italy, she was the youngest of 4, sadly having lost her 3 big brothers over the last few years, whom she loved dearly.

Her legacy lives on in her children, Paul and Lisa, for whom her devotion and love knew no bounds, her beautiful nephews and nieces, whose lives she had the joy of sharing in, and affectionately, her grandchildren, who miss their Nonna very much. She, and they, were fortunate to have shared a daily life together for the past four and a half years. She also holds a very special place in the hearts of her life long friends, with whom she cultivated a sacred sisterhood of friendship.

Please join us in remembering and honouring Norma.

We are so very grateful for all of the care Norma received while living in Squamish. We'd like to thank her medical team, all of the doctors and nurses that cared so kindly for her- she spoke of you often :). And a huge thank you to the Squamish Hospice, whose delicate care at the end, brought peace and relief to all.

Dear Auntie Norma
Our conversations in the last few years have been so delightful. We didn't always agree on some issues but we had a way of making our differences work. I'll miss our telephone calls. I'll miss your birthday wishes - you never forgot!, and your cute Christmas e-greetings.
Thank you for taking care of me and caring for me when I was a baby and toddler. Thank you for saving my life when I was 7 - I'm sure no one knows about that because you were never the type to take credit for heroics. Thank you for making me laugh on that beach in California. Thank you for letting me be a kid when others expected me to be a grown up.
Your memory won't fade, Auntie Norma. Thank you for that too.

It is no easy task to sum up a person's life in a couple of paragraphs.
It is especially difficult when that person is as interesting and diverse as our Mom was.
A lifetime of stories, adventures, and laughs, but also no stranger to great challenges, and devastating pain.
There are many things I could mention, but the underlying force that Norma channeled most fiercely, should come as no surprise to anyone:
It was her relentless effort and devotion to connect with others, and give of herself, whatever she could offer.
Since her death, the messages of love that we have received have all shared a common thread:
'she meant so much to me, she was so kind, generous, patient, and loving'

An amazing friend, colleague, auntie, mother, sister, grandmother, mother-in-law, neighbour... whatever title she held, she held it sacredly, which made her an exemplary human being.

Rest In Peace Mom, you earned it.

Norma you have moved on to a new adventure.

I will always cherish the friendship we had. Even though you kicked my butt several times, you taught me no matter what the message it can be delivered if it comes from a LOVING HEART and Norma you always had a loving heart.

I’m sure everyone remembers Norma’s dog Face.

Norma asked me to look after Face while she went back to Montreal for a family visit.

Sure, no problem.

The first day Face was at my place but at 8:00 he was scratching at the door he wanted to go back home.

The next morning at 6:30 I was over to take Face for a walk, he was lying on Norma’s bed. I went in and said come on Face let’s go for a walk. This dog the size of a Kleenex box growled and showed his teeth. I realized Face was not an early morning dog. I went back to my place waited then called Norm’s place, let the phone ring a few times. Went back over and down to get Face, he was awake and ready to go for a walk. Every morning after that I gave Face a wakeup call and it worked.

Norma I can still hear your voice and laughing about this.

Norma I will miss you. You are in my heart.

Dear Lisa Paul Tim Sevan Reya and Lucas.
I am so grateful to still have such wonderful people like you all in my life. Aunties spirit is now everywhere , as it was in life. Now she sits with us , and we share a glass of wine (or Grand Marnier) . The memories we ALL share can be the subject of HER book.
She truly touched SO many...we carry such memories . Thank you auntie . Till we meet again.
Love Sandra

I loved Norma so much. We met in Jerusalem in the 90s where we were both volunteering for the Sisters of Zion. Norma had gone there as a way to mark her retirement from Air Canada. We stayed in touch over the years, including a memorable trip to Malta and Sicily.
The words I would use to describe Norma are honest, kind, gracious, loving and fun. She had a big big soul.
She talked about you, her family, so much and with so much love. My sincere condolences for your huge loss.
