Cremation FAQ's

Got a question? We’re here to help.
  • What happens during cremation?

The deceased is placed in the casket of the families choice. From there, our funeral directors place the cremation casket into the cremation retort. Temperatures reach up to 980 degrees Celcius. After about three hours of heat and evaporation the cremation is complete and now a cooling down period commences. Using a magnet, any metal is removed. After the cool down period is finished, the cremated remains are broken down into a finer size and put into the urn of the family's choice. If not urn is chosen, the cremated remains are placed into a temporary cardboard urn.

  • How long after death until the cremation takes place?

By law in British Columbia, a cremation cannot take place until 48 hours after the time of death and once all documentation and permits have been received.

We also have to ensure that a family has signed our cremation authorization form that gives us written permission to proceed wth cremation.

  • Does the deceased need to be in a casket for the cremation?

In the province of British Columbia, the deceased must be in a container that encloses human remains and one that is combustable and rigid.

We have several cremation caskets for families to choose from.

  • Can I attend the cremation?

Yes you can. We call this service "Attending the Cremation". This is a small service where the family can be in attendance for when the cremation takes place at our own crematorium.

Families will never see any of the cremation process. Instead, families have two options. Firstly a family can help place the casket into the crematorium and have the option of turning the crematorium on. If this is not for you, families also have the option of being present for the cremation but instead will wait outside the crematorium in our chapel.

  • How long does the cremation process take?

The cremation with a cooling period takes roughly four to five hours to be completely finished.
